Vice President and General Manager
David Johnston is Vice President and General Manager of the Extrusions business and has oversight of the company’s extrusions plants in the United States and Germany. These operations are focused on highly engineered aluminum products for automotive and aerospace customers globally.
Most recently, David was Director of Operational Excellence, responsible for the development of Arconic Business System methodology and tools to drive profitable growth and implementation of lean manufacturing practices across operating locations. From 1990 to 2015, David broadened his operational experience as a maintenance manager, EHS manager and manufacturing manager.
David joined the company in 1990 and served as a divisional engineer for a team focused on execution of capital projects and process improvements for ingot casting, hot rolling, plate/sheet/coil finishing operations and has held numerous leadership roles.
David received an MBA from St. Ambrose University and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
Prior to joining the company, David served with the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
David maintains a strong commitment to community and currently serves as the corporate lead for the Arconic Veteran’s Employee Resource Group. He also currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Putnam Museum, and he is a board member of the Center for Active Seniors (CASI), Quad City Military Affairs Council, Quad City Defense Alliance and the USO of Illinois Advisory Board. David served as Chair of the 2018 Quad City American Heart Association Heart Walk, and he has previously served as the Vice Chair and Treasurer for the Niabi Zoological Society.
