Alcoa Announces Winners of 10th Annual Core Carrier Awards

Knoxville, Tennessee— April (14), 2016 – Lightweight metals leader Alcoa has announced the winners of its 2015 North America Core Carrier Awards, which recognize the critical carriers who help ensure supplies get to Alcoa’s facilities when needed and products get to Alcoa’s customers on time.

“On this, the 10th celebration of our Core Carrier Awards, we are pleased to recognize and reward the North American carriers who provide services for over 60 percent of our truck and ocean container business,” said Ed Hamorsky, Alcoa’s Director of Global Transportation and Logistics. “To our carriers in North America, I am grateful you have embraced this program and maintained a passion to expand and improve upon this idea, bringing tremendous value to all of us.”

“It is a privilege to work with this group of core carriers throughout the year to further advance our enterprises,” said Brad Carraway, Alcoa’s Director, North America Transportation and Logistics.  “We are humbled to be able to recognize these carriers for all of their efforts and dedication to Alcoa.”

Watsontown Trucking Company was presented with the Innovative Transportation Service Partnership Award.  The award recognizes a carrier who leverages resources beyond traditional transportation industry boundaries to deliver innovative solutions that bring benefits to Alcoa.

The annual awards measure Alcoa’s core carriers against seven key metrics including overall volume; shipment acceptance percentage; scope and sustainability; and data accuracy. To be eligible, carriers must be under Alcoa contract and meet volume minimums for at least ten months of the year.

Alcoa’s 12 Tier 1 carriers transported 38% of Alcoa’s North America motor carrier business in 2015. A company who has been a longtime innovator and exceptional service provider, CMI Freight-Trans, of Chicago, Illinois, was recognized as Alcoa’s leading intermodal distribution company, earning their seventh consecutive award. TMC Transportation, of Des Moines, Iowa, secured their ninth carrier of the year award in the Tier 1 flatbed service category. Providing superior truckload services between the U.S. and Canada and within the provinces is Remorquage St-Michel, Inc. of St-Michel, Canada, who maintained their first place position by winning the Canadian Tier 1 carrier of the year award for a ninth straight year.

USA Truck, of Van Buren, Arkansas continued their success by capturing a fourth consecutive title as Alcoa’s Tier 1 carrier of the year for commendable dry van service in North America.

All four of Alcoa’s core ocean carriers received recognition awards for their service during 2015. However, for the fifth consecutive year, Hapag-Lloyd, of Hamburg, Germany, captured Alcoa’s ocean carrier of the year award for extraordinary export and import container service for North America.

In the Tier 2 truckload category, 8 carriers managed 22% of Alcoa’s freight in 2015. After seven years in the program, Loudon County Trucking, of Loudon, Tennessee, won for a fourth-time in the flat bed category for unmatched service.
